• Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a fan of the free market. I was disappointed to learn from the blog of godaddy.com founder Bob Parsons that ICANN apparently just handed Verisign a ticket to a monopoly unchecked by a competitive bidding process.

  • Sometimes, product packaging has it just right. Carolyn and I both like pistachios. But I like pistachio pudding, and Carolyn does not. I have a theory as to why — it’s the color. I ate (and liked) pistachio pudding as a kid. It was yummy pudding, it was green, and you know, there were nuts in it, but no big deal. I just thought “pistachio” was a flavor of pudding — sort of just a synonym for “green.

  • Something hit me in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago, and it hit hard. I don’t know what it was, or where it came from. We’d been out to Sams/Walmart earlier in the day, but I’d washed my hands as soon as we got home. It started with a pain in the nose, and carried on to be an all out sinus flooding. It was as if my body said “Why are we letting the little peanut be the top producer of bodily emissions?

  • Hi, I’m AC Capehart. I’m a Choicy White Boy. On this blog, you’ll find my general musings about life, the occasional thing that I find cool — usually for its geekyness, and a great deal about my daughter, Samantha. Over time, this blog has evolved as my life has changed. The early part of the blog is just my musings/journaling about my life. Not long into it, my wife becomes pregnant and some number of months later (9-ish?

  • In the spirit of the (name of the) Vagina Monologues, I bring you “Conversations with Boobies” by Samantha Capehart. *Postscript: I showed this to Carolyn for approval before posting (hence the photoshopped for modesty.) She was at the end of nursing, and we played the .wav file. You know how your voice doesn’t sound the same to you when played back recorded? Well, Sam’s must have not sounded the same to her, because she got upset listening to the file.

  • I don’t often remember my dreams. I don’t often get enough sleep. (I didn’t last night either, but when Sam went down for a nap this morning, I just had to join her!) My dream started in a B&B with large, lush, flowing grounds. We’d been there for the weekday part of a week with Carolyn’s parents (and Sam)We’d been talking about going to see Ca’s parents some time (once Sam can communicate) where we’d drop off Sam to stay with her grandparents, and we’d stay in a nearby hotel a la fussy.

  • As I think I mentioned in reporting on Sam’s most recent pediatric visit, we’ve learned that now is the time to be helping Sam develop good sleep habits. Everything we’ve heard is that infants and children do best with routine and that a good bed time ritual can really help the whole household. The child knows what to expect. It ends in sleep, so the whole house is calmer, happier. It’s all good.

  • There’s a skit on Chappelle’s Show where Dave Chappelle buys a crazy camera from a mysterious dealer. That camera has special powers including seeing the person’s “inner self.” We went to visit some friends recently, taking Sam along. It appears that our friend must have purchased the same crazy camera as Dave Chappelle because after our visit, he sent us this picture that he took while we were there.

  • When my wife and I became new parents, we took advantage of a coupon included with Boppy and subscribed to Parents magazine. I’ve found some of it useful, but some of it atrocious. Among the slightly irritating: The “Goody Bag” included “binky bling” — a $35. “jewel”-encrusted pacifier and the information that “Hip moms clip sparkly Binkies to their diaper bags long after their babies outgrow the habit.” Also in the goody bag: boots that Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck bought for Violet.
